Named Mt Hope by the Wells family in the early 1900's this was the site of one of the Nelson region's first planted apple orchards. The trees were planted in hope that the site would prove a suitable and successful location for the crops to flourish. The gentle rolling hills of the former Mt Hope Orchard are now to be home for 40 new residential lots in the Mt Hope subdivision.

Mt Hope is adjacent to the Aranui Park reserve, providing an attractive and easy link to the Mapua Village and its café’s, shops and galleries. Mapua School is an easy walk away, along with the Ruby Bay coastline and its stunning scenery.
